Kodak 2009 Wedding & Portrait Awards

I really can't believe that I have managed to come this far out of the thousands of photographers who entered this competition throughout the UK & Ireland. The photograph that has placed me in the top 5 came from a wedding shoot of Caitriona and Keith Hicks with their daughter Caidhreann at Liffey Valley House Hotel. Whilst shooting the bride and groom, little Caidhreann started getting bored so I gave her my second camera (hoping she wouldn't drop it) and let her take some photos of her parents.

I just stood a little further back and snapped away at her. She had quite a trigger finger and took such good photos of her parents that I had to delete them straight away!

Local photographer reaches final

Kildare based photographer, Phil Voon has been named as one of only five finalists in a prestigious national photography awards.

The 2009 Kodak Portrait Awards is run by The Master Photographers Association (MPA), the UK’s only organisation for full-time, qualified photographers and Kodak Professional. The Awards attracted entries from the cream of Britain & Ireland's professional photographers, so to reach the final is a huge accolade for Phil.

One purpose of the Awards is to raise money for the PACE Centre in Aylesbury (www.thepacecentre.org), PACE is the MPA’s chosen charity and does invaluable work with children with physical disabilities, such as cerebral palsy. Each entry carried a £1 charge, with all the fees being donated to PACE.

The subject of Phil’sstunning image wins a Kodak digital camera and will be hoping he can go all the way – they stand to pick up a cool £1,000 if Phil is named the overall winner at the glittering Master Photography Awards ceremony, which is held in Newcastle in October.

Says Colin Buck, MPA chief executive, “Phil has done extremely well to reach this stage of such a high profile Award. The competition was very tough and to reach the final is a real honour. I’m sure Phil will be looking forward to October to see if he is crowned the overall winner.”
